Selection & Advisory Committee at Strathmore

The Selection and Advisory Committee at Strathmore is an important point of contact for the students and graduates of Strathmore. They will both give advice on the initial process of applying for support from IDEA as well as providing advice and follow up for the students in the project phase.
The main function of the Selection & Advisory Committee is to support the Investment Committee on what projects to support.

Dr. Joseph Sevilla, Head of the Committee

Dr Sevilla is currently the Director of @iLabAfrica. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of IT (Strathmore University) and has over 28 years’ educational experience. He holds a PhD in Bioinformatics, MSc (Computer Science), M.Sc. Industrial Engineering BCS

His area of focus is in Information Systems security with a specialty in Security Hacking. He has also been an active member of the East African Internet Association and the Computer Society of Kenya where he was a member of the Executive Board and the Education Committee respectively.

He has lead several research projects that cover on issues of ICT in Education and Development, e-learning and participated in the creation of the Kenya National Educational Network (KENET). He has also advised the Ministry of Education and the Kenya ICT Board on issues such as drafting of national policies in ICT, the setting up of a national IT syllabus and the adoption of a national ICT strategy. He pioneered the establishment of the Safaricom Academy Masters in Telecommunication and Innovation Development (MSc.TID) syllabus and is currently leading the development of a Masters in Computer education curriculum for teachers.

He served as Director of Information Technology Centre, Strathmore College. He is also a member of Safaricom Innovation Board which oversees development of new and innovative products and services from the general IT community in Kenya.

Mr. Sevilla has been involved on a number of consultancy jobs with local firms and has also worked in the design and implementation of several IT installations and networks, and ICT software implementations.

Dr. Monica Kerretts

Dr. Monica Kerretts-Makau is Deputy Director @iLabAfrica and a Senior Lecturer in Strathmore University and Strathmore Business School where she teaches Managing People and Organizations in the MBA program and Entrepreneurship and Public Policy in the Undergrad program.

She holds a PhD in Public Policy and Regulation from the University of New South Wales- Australia and an MSc in Business with Information Technology from Salford University-Greater Manchester UK and a BA Cum Laude in Communications from Daystar University-Kenya.
Her work experience combines both Government and Private sector.

Her most recent position was Advisor to the Regulator –Government of Rwanda (2007-2009) and Advisor to Telecom Ministry –Government of Southern Sudan (2007). She also held the position of Regional Anglophone Africa Coordinator for the ITU –Centre of Excellence during its re-establishment at AFRALTI –Kenya.

Her Management position in the private sector include KPMG – Regional Knowledge Management Manager (EA), Knowledge Systems Analyst –KPMG KM Group - Australia and Standard Chartered Bank –Institutional Banking Manager –Kenya.

Dr. Kerretts also holds two public office positions as Director at the Communications Commission of Kenya – the Communications Regulator in Kenya and the Kenya Society of the Blind where she chairs the Resource Mobilization Committee.

Dr. George Njenga

Dr. George Njenga is the Deputy Vice Chancellor Strathmore University Research and Senior lecturer in ethics and management. He is also responsible for overseeing the activities of Strathmore Business School. He is a former Director of Strathmore Business School and was responsible for the entire formation and execution of the University’s plans for its MBA initiative and Executive Business Education. Mr. Njenga served as Strathmore’s Director of the School of Accountancy and Distance Learning Centre of Strathmore University.

Before entering the education sector, Mr. Njenga served in the private sector as Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young in Nairobi. He also acted as receiver on the firm’s behalf of Golden Beach Hotel in a significant local insolvency case. In addition to his professional duties, Mr. Njenga is a Director of Pacis Insurance Company plc, board member of Waumini Insurance Brokers and Medical Supplies (MEDS) plc in Nairobi

Per Emil Lindøe

CEO of NORFUND (Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries) from 1997-2006. Prior to Norfund, senior management positions held by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) a world leading classification and certification society, as well as a risk management services provider.
Chairperson Fanisi Venture Capital Management Company Kenya Ltd ( 2010-). None Executive Director in Aureos Capital (2002-2006, Chair 2003-2005); AMSCO BV (African Management Company2003-); Norsad a Nordic/SADC financing institution (2003-); and SN Power (2002-2007)
Mr. Lindoe has lived and worked in Africa accumulated for some 12 years.
